Anarcho-Arsonist Michael Sykes Sentenced to 4-10 Years

Standard

I reported about the animal rights nuts who firebombed a UC Santa Cruz scientist’s home a few days ago. Today I read youthful anarcho-arsonist Michael Sykes (age 17) of Ohio was sentenced to 4-10 years for torching a couple of unfinished homes. He was also ordered to pay restitution estimated by the court to be between $200,000 and $400,000.

If you haven’t been following the case, Sykes is another self-righteous imbecile who decided to burn down the homes as an “anti-development” statement and because the builders had cut down some trees. Sykes was busted after he attempted to siphon gasoline from an unmarked sheriff’s car. Ironically, the sheriff was on surveillance to catch the perpetrator of the arsons.

Sykes confessed to other criminal acts including torching a condominium in Crystal Water Villas and attempting to chop down an 80-foot utility pole. Sheriff’s Detective Tom Redmond said the teenager also admitted to committing arson fires when he was 15, including the January, 2006, blaze behind the Kroger store at Sterns and Secor roads in Lambertville that destroyed a semi trailer.

From the Toledo Blade:

None of the victims whose homes were destroyed by the arsonist was present in court for the pleading. Brian Wagner, who is the owner of the home that is being rebuilt on Brentridge, said he was satisfied the case has been resolved with a conviction.

“I hope that he can get some help and that when he gets out of prison he will be a changed person,” Mr. Wagner said.

Mr. Wagner said that he and his wife had to delay selling their Sylvania Township home and drop the asking price while they restarted construction of their dream home. He said they hoped to move into the house in early August.

“You can’t imagine what we went through,” he said. “We get a little nervous anytime that we smell smoke. It is something that will stay with you for the rest of your life.”

In the weeks ahead expect Sykes to be placed on a pedestal by the direct-action community for the crimes he committed against his neighbors. His story is already making the rounds at the usual places. Here is a comment from Infoshop.org:

“You can’t imagine what we went through,” he said. “We get a little nervous anytime that we smell smoke. It is something that will stay with you for the rest of your life.” Oh, give me a fucking break you rich pieces of mutant shit. Boo hoo, we had our second home set on fire boo hoo! Go choke to death on a fucking bullet and rid the world of your pathetic, mangled, hollow, empty excuses for “lives”.

These are the same idiots who rant on and on about “building a better world” and the so-called “Green Scare” taking away our civil liberties. From my vantage point, the people seeking to take away our right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness are criminals like Sykes.

  1. I think every wanna-be eco-terrorist should have to visit the kid in prison and see where their youthful acts of idiocracy can end them up. I truly believe that a lot of the folks who do these acts are so involved in a community that doesn’t see these things as the crimes that they are, that they don’t consider the fact that they may spend 10 years in a rather unpleasant prison for engaging in these activities.
