Q Train, New York City—Last week a group of at least a dozen thugs attacked two Jewish students. The only person who stepped in to stop the assault, Hassan Askari, was a Bangladeshi Muslim. He got punched at least a few times for his assistance, as evidenced by his two black eyes and other bruises. But it could have been far worse. A knife in the neck, a bullet in the head, who knows? What would I do in a similar situation?

The Moderate Voice:

A young man, accompanied by his girlfriend, had just been wished Merry Christmas by another group on the train.

The young man happily answered back with, “Happy Chanukah.”

That’s when all hell broke loose.

One of a group of other young people on the train immediately hiked up his sleeve to reveal a tattoo of Christ. Fourteen men and women jumped the “Happy Chanukah” man, yelling, “He said, ‘Happy Hanukkah, that’s when the Jews killed Jesus…’ dirty Jews and Jew bitches.”

Three of belligerents have criminal records for violent activity and could face hate-crimes charges. Joseph Jirovec is on probation for attacking two black men. His girlfriend, The Gothamist reports, “was arrested in early September for an attack on two livery cab drivers…A third member of the group, Zachary Rogalski, has also been charged in the past for an assault against black men.”
